Chinese Money Plant
Chinese Money Plant is a charming houseplant known for its round, coin-shaped green leaves and simple, modern look. Its compact growth habit makes it a great choice for shelves, desks, windowsills, plant stands, and bright indoor spaces.
The proper botanical name is Pilea peperomioides. It may also be sold as Pilea, Pancake Plant, UFO Plant, or Coin Plant.
Care
Chinese Money Plant does best in bright, indirect light. It can tolerate medium light, but brighter filtered light helps support fuller growth and stronger stems. Avoid harsh direct sun, which can scorch the leaves.
Water thoroughly when the top inch or two of soil feels dry and allow water to drain. Pilea prefer lightly moist soil, but they do not like sitting in wet soil, so avoid watering too frequently.
Use a well-draining potting mix and a pot with drainage. A standard houseplant mix with added perlite, orchid bark, or coco coir works well.
Chinese Money Plant prefers warm temperatures and average household humidity. Keep it away from cold drafts, heating vents, and air conditioning.
Rotate the plant occasionally to help it grow evenly toward the light. Mature plants often produce small baby plants, or “pups,” around the base that can be separated and potted once they have their own roots.
