Monstera adansonii Indonesian Mint is a highly collectible variegated Monstera known for its beautifully marbled foliage and characteristic natural holes, or fenestrations. Its leaves combine darker green with mint green, pale green, cream, and softly mottled variegation. Rather than producing only crisp white sections, the lighter areas often blend through several shades of green, creating the layered mint appearance that makes this plant especially distinctive.
Commonly sold as Monstera adansonii ‘Indonesian Mint’ or Indonesian Mint Monstera, this is a variegated selection of Monstera adansonii rather than a separate species. The Indonesian Mint name is primarily used in the collector plant trade to distinguish plants with this particular mint-toned variegation. Color and pattern can vary considerably from leaf to leaf and between individual plants.
Monstera adansonii Indonesian Mint does best in bright, indirect light. Its pale and mint-colored portions contain less chlorophyll than solid green foliage, so good light is particularly important for maintaining healthy growth and attractive variegation. Avoid prolonged intense direct sunlight, which can scorch the lighter portions of the leaves.
Water when the top 1–2 inches of the potting mix begin to dry, then water thoroughly and allow excess water to drain. Keep watering relatively consistent during active growth, but avoid constantly wet soil. Allowing some drying between waterings helps reduce the risk of root problems.
Use a chunky, airy, and fast-draining aroid mix. Orchid bark, coco chips or coir, perlite, pumice, and a smaller amount of quality potting mix provide a good balance of drainage, moisture retention, and airflow around the roots.
Indonesian Mint prefers warm temperatures and moderate to high humidity. Higher humidity can help new leaves expand properly and maintain healthy edges, but good airflow is also important. Protect the plant from cold drafts and sudden temperature changes.
This Monstera develops a climbing and vining growth habit. It can be allowed to trail, but providing a moss pole, plank, or other vertical support encourages larger leaves and more mature fenestrations. Variegation can fluctuate between new leaves, so some leaves may emerge much greener or lighter than others. Pruning and propagation can also be used to maintain a fuller plant as the vines become longer.
Monstera adansonii Indonesian Mint is toxic to cats and dogs if chewed or ingested. Like other Monsteras, it contains insoluble calcium oxalate crystals that can cause irritation of the mouth, tongue, and throat, along with drooling, vomiting, or difficulty swallowing. Keep it out of reach of pets and small children.
