Peperomia Green is a compact, easy-care houseplant prized for its thick, glossy green leaves and tidy, bushy growth habit. Its fleshy foliage gives the plant a lush appearance while also helping it tolerate occasional missed waterings. With its manageable size and classic green coloring, it works especially well on shelves, desktops, windowsills, and in smaller indoor spaces.
Plants sold as Peperomia Green are commonly green forms of Peperomia obtusifolia, also known as the Baby Rubber Plant. Despite its common name and thick, rubbery-looking leaves, it is not related to the true Rubber Plant in the Ficus genus. Peperomia is a large genus of tropical plants containing many species with different leaf shapes, textures, and growth habits.
Peperomia Green does best in medium to bright, indirect light. It can tolerate somewhat lower-light conditions, although growth may become slower or less compact. Avoid prolonged harsh direct sunlight, which can scorch the foliage.
Allow the top inch or two of soil to dry between waterings, then water thoroughly and allow excess water to drain. Its thick leaves and fleshy stems store moisture, making it more tolerant of occasional dryness than constantly wet soil. Overwatering can lead to root and stem rot.
