Aglaonema 'Amber' is a beautiful tropical houseplant known for its colorful foliage and warm blend of green, pink, and reddish tones. Its broad, glossy leaves feature attractive patterns of soft green and rosy coloration, creating a vibrant display that brings warmth and personality to any indoor space. With its lush, upright growth habit and relatively easy care, 'Amber' makes an excellent choice for desks, shelves, decorative planters, and indoor plant collections. Its adaptability and colorful appearance make it a favorite among both beginner plant owners and experienced enthusiasts.
Commonly sold as Aglaonema 'Amber', this plant belongs to the Araceae family and is part of the popular Chinese Evergreen group. Aglaonemas are native to tropical and subtropical regions of Asia and New Guinea. 'Amber' is a horticultural trade name, and the exact coloration and pattern of its foliage may vary between growers and individual plants.
Light: Prefers medium to bright, indirect light to maintain its beautiful pink, red, and green coloration. Can tolerate lower light conditions, although growth may slow and the colorful markings may become less pronounced. Avoid prolonged exposure to harsh direct sunlight, which can scorch the leaves.
Watering: Allow the top 1–2 inches of soil to dry between waterings. Water thoroughly, allowing excess water to drain away. Aglaonema prefers lightly moist soil during active growth but is sensitive to consistently soggy conditions. Reduce watering during cooler months.
Soil: Use a loose, well-draining potting mix containing quality potting soil, perlite, and orchid bark or coco coir. The mixture should retain some moisture while providing good airflow around the roots.
Temperature & Humidity: Thrives in temperatures between 65–85°F and appreciates moderate humidity, ideally 40–60% or higher. Protect from cold drafts, sudden temperature changes, and temperatures below 60°F. Higher humidity can help prevent browning along the leaf edges.
Growth Habit: A slow to moderately growing tropical plant that develops a compact, upright to slightly spreading form. Its broad, colorful leaves emerge from sturdy stems, creating a full, bushy appearance as the plant matures. Mature plants may reach approximately 1–3 feet tall indoors, depending on growing conditions. Occasional removal of older leaves helps maintain a tidy appearance.
Toxic to cats and dogs if ingested. Aglaonema contains insoluble calcium oxalate crystals that can cause oral irritation, excessive drooling, vomiting, and difficulty swallowing. Keep this plant out of reach of curious pets.
