Aglaonema Legacy Red
Aglaonema Legacy Red is a colorful tropical houseplant known for its broad leaves patterned with rich green, vivid red, and rosy pink tones. The bold coloration is especially noticeable along the veins and margins, giving each leaf a vibrant, painted appearance. Its compact, bushy growth habit and relatively easy care make it an excellent choice for tabletops, plant stands, offices, and bright indoor spaces.
The plant is commonly sold as Aglaonema ‘Legacy Red’ or Red Legacy Aglaonema. It belongs to the group of colorful cultivated Aglaonema hybrids commonly known as Chinese Evergreens. Cultivar names can vary somewhat between growers, but Legacy Red is grown primarily for its strong red and pink coloration.
Care
Aglaonema Legacy Red does best in medium to bright, indirect light. Brighter filtered light helps maintain its strongest red and pink coloring. It can tolerate lower light, but growth may slow and the foliage may become greener. Avoid prolonged harsh direct sunlight, which can scorch the leaves.
Water thoroughly when the top inch or two of soil feels dry and allow excess water to drain. Aglaonema prefer lightly moist soil but are sensitive to consistently wet conditions. Allowing the upper portion of the soil to dry between waterings helps reduce the risk of root rot.
Use a well-draining, airy potting mix and a pot with drainage. A mixture containing houseplant soil, perlite, orchid bark, and coco coir works well and provides a good balance of moisture retention and airflow around the roots.
Aglaonema Legacy Red prefers warm temperatures and moderate humidity. It adapts well to normal household conditions but appreciates additional humidity when available. Protect it from cold drafts and sudden temperature changes, as Aglaonema prefer consistently warm conditions.
This plant has a compact, upright and bushy growth habit. New leaves emerge from the center of the plant, gradually creating a fuller appearance. It is generally slow to moderately growing and requires little pruning beyond removing old or damaged foliage.
Pet Safety
Aglaonema Legacy Red is toxic to cats and dogs if ingested. Like other members of the Araceae family, it contains insoluble calcium oxalate crystals that can cause irritation of the mouth and digestive tract. Keep it away from pets and small children.
