Alocasia Golden Bone is a striking tropical houseplant known for its thick, glossy green leaves with prominent golden to yellow-green veins and deeply textured foliage. New leaves may emerge in lighter shades before darkening as they mature, creating beautiful contrast between the veins and leaf surface. Its bold foliage and upright growth habit make it a standout choice for collectors, plant stands, and bright indoor spaces.
The proper name is commonly listed as Alocasia ‘Golden Bone’. It is a cultivated Alocasia variety prized for its distinctive venation, textured leaves, and compact growth. Naming and parentage can vary between growers, so it is most consistently sold under the cultivar name Golden Bone.
Care
Alocasia Golden Bone does best in bright, indirect light. Plenty of filtered light encourages strong growth and helps maintain its distinctive coloration. Avoid prolonged harsh direct sunlight, which can scorch the leaves.
Water thoroughly when the top inch or two of soil feels dry and allow excess water to drain. Alocasias prefer lightly and consistently moist soil during active growth but should never remain soggy. They can be sensitive to both prolonged drought and overwatering.
Use a well-draining, chunky potting mix and a pot with drainage. A mixture containing houseplant soil, orchid bark, perlite, and coco coir works well, providing moisture retention while allowing plenty of airflow around the roots.
Alocasia Golden Bone prefers warm temperatures and moderate to high humidity. Higher humidity can encourage larger, healthier foliage and help prevent crispy leaf edges. Keep it away from cold drafts, heating vents, and air conditioning.
This plant has an upright, clumping growth habit, with new leaves emerging from the base of the plant. Alocasias may occasionally lose an older leaf as a new one develops, especially while young. Growth can also slow considerably during cooler months, so reduce watering if the plant becomes less active.
Pet Safety
Alocasia Golden Bone is toxic to cats and dogs if ingested. Like other Alocasias, it contains insoluble calcium oxalate crystals that can cause irritation of the mouth and digestive tract. Keep it away from pets and small children.
