Alocasia Shattered Glass
Alocasia Shattered Glass is a rare tropical houseplant known for its deep green leaves with silvery, speckled variegation that creates a fractured or “shattered glass” look. Each leaf can vary in pattern, giving the plant a unique, collector-style appearance.
The proper name is most commonly listed as Alocasia boyceana ‘Shattered Glass’. It may also sometimes be listed as Alocasia heterophylla ‘Shattered Glass’, so naming can vary by grower.
Care
Alocasia Shattered Glass does best in bright, indirect light. Avoid harsh direct sun, which can scorch the leaves, especially on lighter variegated areas.
Keep the soil lightly moist, but not soggy. Water when the top inch or two of soil feels dry. Alocasia do not like drying out completely for long periods, but they are also sensitive to overwatering.
Use a well-draining, chunky potting mix. A mix with houseplant soil, orchid bark, perlite, and coco coir works well.
This plant prefers warm temperatures and higher humidity. Keep it away from cold drafts, air vents, and temperatures below 60°F. Higher humidity can help reduce crispy leaf edges.
Alocasia may drop older leaves as they grow, especially after shipping, repotting, or changes in environment. This is normal as long as the plant is still producing healthy new growth.
