Variegated Amydrium Zippelianum
Variegated Amydrium Zippelianum is a rare tropical aroid known for its climbing growth habit, unusual leaf shape, and green leaves with cream, white, or minty variegation. As it matures, the foliage can develop a more dramatic, palm-like or fenestrated look, making it a standout choice for collectors, moss poles, trellises, plant cabinets, and bright indoor spaces.
The proper botanical name is Amydrium zippelianum ‘Variegata’ or Amydrium zippelianum variegated.
Care
Variegated Amydrium Zippelianum does best in bright, indirect light. Brighter filtered light helps support healthy growth and maintain variegation. Avoid harsh direct sun, which can scorch the leaves, especially the lighter variegated sections.
Water thoroughly when the top inch or two of soil feels dry and allow water to drain. Amydrium prefer lightly moist soil, but they do not like sitting in wet soil, so avoid watering too frequently.
Use a well-draining, chunky potting mix and a pot with drainage. A mix with houseplant soil, orchid bark, perlite, and coco coir works well.
Variegated Amydrium Zippelianum prefers warm temperatures and moderate to high humidity. Higher humidity can help support fuller growth, stronger leaves, and better climbing behavior. Keep it away from cold drafts, heating vents, and air conditioning.
This plant likes to climb as it matures. A moss pole, plank, or trellis can help encourage larger leaves and more mature foliage.
