Harmony’s Purple Passion African Violet
Harmony’s Purple Passion African Violet is a beautiful compact houseplant prized for its soft, fuzzy green foliage and rich purple flowers. Its velvety leaves form an attractive rosette beneath clusters of colorful blooms, creating the classic African Violet appearance in a small, easy-to-display plant. With proper care, African Violets can flower repeatedly throughout the year, making Harmony’s Purple Passion an excellent choice for windowsills, desks, shelves, and other bright indoor spaces.
The plant is commonly sold as Harmony’s Purple Passion African Violet. African Violets were traditionally classified in the genus Saintpaulia, but modern botanical classification places them within the genus Streptocarpus. The Saintpaulia name remains widely used in the houseplant trade, particularly when referring to cultivated African Violet varieties.
Care
Harmony’s Purple Passion African Violet does best in bright, indirect light. Good filtered light encourages compact growth and frequent flowering. An east-facing window or a position near a bright filtered window works especially well. Avoid prolonged harsh direct sunlight, which can scorch the fuzzy foliage.
Water when the top layer of soil begins to feel slightly dry, keeping the potting mix lightly and consistently moist without allowing it to become soggy. African Violets generally prefer room-temperature water. Bottom watering can work especially well, but do not allow the pot to remain sitting in water after the soil has absorbed what it needs.
Use a light, airy and well-draining African Violet potting mix in a container with drainage. A mixture containing peat moss or coco coir with plenty of perlite works well. African Violets have relatively fine roots and perform best in a loose mix that provides both moisture retention and good airflow.
Harmony’s Purple Passion prefers warm temperatures and moderate humidity. It adapts well to normal household conditions but appreciates consistent temperatures without cold drafts or sudden changes. Good airflow is beneficial, particularly in more humid environments.
This plant has a compact, rosette-forming growth habit. Removing spent flowers and older or damaged leaves can encourage a neat appearance and continued blooming. African Violets generally flower best when slightly snug in their containers, so avoid moving them into an excessively large pot.
Pet Safety
Harmony’s Purple Passion African Violet is generally considered pet-friendly and non-toxic to cats and dogs. As with any houseplant, eating large amounts of foliage or flowers may still cause mild digestive upset, so it is best to discourage pets from chewing on the plant.
