Monstera Adansonii Neon
Monstera Adansonii Neon is an eye-catching collector Monstera prized for its bright chartreuse to neon-green foliage and signature natural fenestrations. Its vivid coloring gives the familiar Swiss Cheese Vine a much brighter appearance, with new leaves often emerging especially luminous before settling into richer lime-green tones. As the plant matures, its leaves can become larger and develop increasingly dramatic openings.
The proper botanical name is commonly sold as Monstera adansonii ‘Neon’, with Neon Monstera Adansonii also widely used in the plant trade. “Neon” refers to its distinctive bright foliage coloration rather than a separate Monstera species. It should not be confused with yellow-variegated forms of Monstera adansonii, which typically produce irregular patches or sectors of contrasting color rather than consistently chartreuse foliage.
Care
Monstera Adansonii Neon does best in bright, indirect light. Plenty of filtered light helps maintain its vivid coloration, supports healthy growth, and encourages development of mature fenestrations. Avoid prolonged harsh direct sunlight, which can scorch the lighter-colored foliage.
Water when the top inch or two of soil feels dry, then water thoroughly and allow excess water to drain. Monstera Adansonii Neon appreciates consistent moisture during active growth but should never remain soggy or waterlogged. Avoid allowing the root system to stay completely dry for extended periods.
Use a well-draining, chunky aroid potting mix in a container with drainage. A mixture containing quality houseplant soil or coco coir, orchid bark, and perlite or pumice works well. This provides enough moisture retention for active growth while maintaining plenty of airflow around the roots.
Monstera Adansonii Neon prefers warm temperatures and moderate to high humidity. It adapts to average household humidity, although additional humidity can encourage larger, healthier foliage and help prevent crispy leaf edges. Good airflow is beneficial in higher-humidity environments.
This plant develops a vigorous climbing and vining growth habit. It can be allowed to trail, but providing a moss pole, plank, or other vertical support allows its aerial roots to attach and can encourage progressively larger leaves with more mature fenestration. Pruning longer vines can encourage branching and help maintain a fuller appearance.
Pet Safety
Monstera Adansonii Neon is toxic to cats and dogs if ingested. Like other Monsteras, it contains insoluble calcium oxalate crystals that can cause irritation of the mouth, tongue, and lips, along with drooling, vomiting, and difficulty swallowing. Keep it out of reach of pets and small children.
