Philodendron 'Caramel Pluto' is a striking tropical houseplant known for its deeply lobed foliage and beautiful bronze, copper, and caramel-colored new growth. As fresh leaves emerge, they display warm reddish-brown tones before gradually maturing into rich, glossy green. Its dramatic leaf shape, bold texture, and changing colors create a unique tropical appearance that makes it a standout addition to any indoor plant collection. With its impressive foliage and relatively easy care, 'Caramel Pluto' is an excellent choice for plant enthusiasts looking for something distinctive.
Philodendron 'Caramel Pluto' is a cultivated, self-heading Philodendron commonly associated with the 'Pluto' group of hybrids. It is especially appreciated for its warm-colored emerging leaves and deeply divided mature foliage. Unlike the highly variegated Philodendron 'Caramel Marble', 'Caramel Pluto' is primarily grown for its naturally changing leaf colors rather than stable cream or yellow variegation.
Light: Prefers bright, indirect light to encourage healthy growth and bring out the warm caramel and bronze tones of new foliage. Can tolerate medium light conditions, although growth may slow. Avoid prolonged exposure to harsh direct sunlight, which can scorch the leaves.
Watering: Allow the top 1–2 inches of soil to dry between waterings. Water thoroughly, allowing excess water to drain away. Avoid keeping the soil constantly wet, as overwatering can lead to root rot. Reduce watering during cooler months.
Soil: Use a chunky, well-draining aroid mix containing orchid bark, perlite, coco coir, and quality potting soil. This provides moisture retention while allowing excellent airflow around the roots.
Temperature & Humidity: Thrives in temperatures between 65–85°F and appreciates moderate to high humidity, ideally 50–70%. Protect from cold drafts and temperatures below 55°F. Consistent humidity encourages healthy leaf development.
Growth Habit: A moderately growing, self-heading Philodendron that develops a bold, upright to spreading form. Its leaves become larger and more deeply lobed as the plant matures, creating an impressive architectural display. New foliage often emerges in shades of caramel, bronze, or reddish brown before transitioning to deep green. Mature plants can become substantial in size and benefit from plenty of room to spread.
Toxic to cats and dogs if ingested. Philodendrons contain insoluble calcium oxalate crystals that can cause oral irritation, excessive drooling, vomiting, and difficulty swallowing. Keep this plant out of reach of curious pets.
