Pseudobombax ellipticum is a unique tropical tree known for its sculptural trunk, bright green leaves, and seasonal blooms. As it matures, it can develop a thickened, bonsai-like trunk, giving it a bold, architectural look. In the right conditions, mature plants may produce large, showy flowers with long, brush-like stamens in shades of white to pink.
For best growth, place Pseudobombax ellipticum in bright light. It does best with bright indirect light to several hours of direct sun, especially when grown indoors near a sunny window. Strong light will help support healthy growth and a stronger trunk.
Allow the soil to dry partially between waterings. Water more regularly during the active growing season, then reduce watering in cooler months when growth slows. Use a well-draining potting mix and a pot with drainage to help prevent root issues.
This plant prefers warm temperatures and average household humidity. Keep it away from cold drafts and temperatures below 60°F. Pseudobombax ellipticum may drop its leaves seasonally, especially during cooler or drier periods. This is normal and part of its natural growth cycle.
Pseudobombax ellipticum is a great choice for plant owners who want a rare, sculptural plant with a tropical bonsai-style look and manageable care needs.
