Rhaphidophora Cryptantha
Rhaphidophora Cryptantha is a unique shingling tropical houseplant known for its small, heart-shaped leaves that grow flat against a surface as it climbs. Its deep green foliage and tight climbing habit make it a standout choice for moss boards, cork bark, terrariums, plant cabinets, and bright indoor spaces.
The proper botanical name is Rhaphidophora cryptantha.
Care
Rhaphidophora Cryptantha does best in bright, indirect light. It can tolerate medium light, but brighter filtered light helps encourage stronger growth and tighter shingling. Avoid harsh direct sun, which can scorch the leaves.
Water thoroughly when the top inch or two of soil feels dry and allow water to drain. Rhaphidophora prefer lightly moist soil, but they do not like sitting in wet soil, so avoid watering too frequently.
Use a well-draining, chunky potting mix and a pot with drainage. A mix with houseplant soil, orchid bark, perlite, and coco coir works well.
Rhaphidophora Cryptantha prefers warm temperatures and moderate to high humidity. Higher humidity helps support healthy growth and encourages the leaves to attach more closely to a climbing surface. Keep it away from cold drafts, heating vents, and air conditioning.
This plant does best when given something flat to climb, such as a moss board, wood plank, cork bark, or textured pole. As it matures, the leaves may grow larger and continue to press tightly against the surface.
