Rhaphidophora Gorilan is a rare tropical aroid known for its climbing growth habit and elongated green leaves. Some forms are sold with cream or white variegation, giving each leaf a unique patterned look. Its bold foliage and vining habit make it a great choice for moss poles, trellises, plant stands, and bright indoor spaces.
The proper name is most commonly listed in the trade as Rhaphidophora megasperma ‘Gorilan’ or Rhaphidophora magasperma ‘Gorilan’. Naming varies by grower, so it may also be sold as Rhaphidophora Gorilan. Tiny naming chaos, because apparently one spelling was too generous.
Rhaphidophora Gorilan does best in bright, indirect light. Brighter filtered light helps support strong growth and better variegation if you have a variegated form. Avoid harsh direct sun, which can scorch the leaves.
Water thoroughly when the top inch or two of soil feels dry and allow water to drain. Rhaphidophora prefer lightly moist soil, but they do not like sitting in wet soil, so avoid watering too frequently.
Use a well-draining, chunky potting mix and a pot with drainage. A mix with houseplant soil, orchid bark, perlite, and coco coir works well.
Rhaphidophora Gorilan prefers warm temperatures and moderate to high humidity. Higher humidity can help support fuller growth and healthier leaves. Keep it away from cold drafts, heating vents, and air conditioning.
This plant likes to climb as it matures. A moss pole, trellis, or plank can help encourage larger leaves and a stronger upright growth habit.
Rhaphidophora plants are considered toxic to pets if ingested. Keep them away from cats, dogs, and small children.
