Sansevieria 'Blue Bat' is a unique and eye-catching snake plant known for its thick, sculptural leaves and beautiful blue-green coloration. Its broad, slightly curved foliage features subtle mottled patterns and a distinctive shape that gives this variety its name. With its bold architectural appearance and easygoing nature, 'Blue Bat' makes an excellent statement plant for shelves, desks, and modern indoor spaces.
Sansevieria plants are now botanically classified under the genus Dracaena, although they are still commonly sold under their familiar Sansevieria name. 'Blue Bat' is a horticultural trade name.
Light: Prefers bright, indirect light but can tolerate medium to low light conditions. Brighter indirect light encourages stronger growth and helps maintain its attractive blue-green coloration. Avoid prolonged exposure to intense direct sunlight.
Watering: Allow the soil to dry out completely between waterings. Water thoroughly and allow excess water to drain away. Reduce watering during cooler months, as overwatering can quickly lead to root rot.
Soil: Use a well-draining cactus or succulent mix amended with perlite or pumice. Good drainage is essential for keeping the roots healthy.
Temperature & Humidity: Thrives in temperatures between 60–85°F and does well in average household humidity. Protect from cold drafts and temperatures below 50°F.
Growth Habit: A slow-growing succulent with thick, broad leaves that develop an upright to slightly spreading growth pattern. Its sculptural foliage creates a bold, architectural look, and mature plants may produce offsets at the base.
Toxic to cats and dogs if ingested. Sansevieria contains saponins that can cause nausea, vomiting, and gastrointestinal upset. Keep this plant out of reach of curious pets.
