Sansevieria Cleopatra is a highly distinctive collector Snake Plant prized for its compact rosette and intricate foliage pattern. Its thick, broad leaves display bands and markings in shades of deep green, lighter green, and silvery gray, often accented by reddish-brown margins. The detailed patterning and symmetrical growth give each plant an almost hand-painted appearance, making Cleopatra especially appealing for smaller spaces and specialty Snake Plant collections.
Commonly sold as Sansevieria ‘Cleopatra’, this is a cultivated Snake Plant selected for its unusual foliage and compact growth. Sansevierias are now botanically included within the genus Dracaena, although the older Sansevieria name remains widely used in the houseplant and collector trade. Cleopatra is particularly valued because its combination of detailed leaf markings and slow-growing rosette form is quite different from traditional upright Snake Plants.
Sansevieria Cleopatra does best in medium to bright light and can tolerate some gentle direct sunlight once properly acclimated. It will survive in lower light, but brighter conditions generally encourage stronger growth, more compact foliage, and more pronounced leaf patterning.
Allow the potting mix to dry completely or almost completely between waterings, then water thoroughly and allow excess water to drain. Its thick leaves and underground rhizomes store moisture, making Cleopatra highly drought tolerant. Overwatering and constantly damp soil are much greater risks than allowing the plant to remain dry.
Use a very well-draining, gritty cactus or succulent mix in a container with drainage. Adding pumice, perlite, lava rock, coarse sand, or other mineral material helps prevent excess moisture from remaining around the roots and rhizomes.
Sansevieria Cleopatra prefers warm temperatures and low to moderate humidity but adapts very well to typical household conditions. Protect it from freezing temperatures and prolonged exposure to cold, wet soil.
This Snake Plant develops a very slow-growing, compact rosette of thick leaves. New growth emerges from underground rhizomes, and mature plants may eventually produce additional rosettes or offsets around the original plant. Because Cleopatra is naturally slow growing, it generally requires little pruning or frequent repotting.
Sansevieria Cleopatra is toxic to cats and dogs if ingested. Like other Snake Plants, it contains saponins that can cause nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and other digestive irritation. Keep it out of reach of pets and small children.
