Sansevieria Cordova Variegated is a distinctive collector Snake Plant known for its thick, architectural foliage and striking bands of contrasting color. Its sturdy leaves display combinations of deep green, lighter green, creamy yellow, and pale cream variegation, with patterns that can differ noticeably from one leaf to the next. Its structured growth and bright variegation make it an excellent statement plant while still maintaining the durability associated with Snake Plants.
Commonly sold as Sansevieria ‘Cordova Variegated’ or Variegated Cordova, this is a cultivated Snake Plant grown for its patterned foliage. Sansevierias are now botanically included within the genus Dracaena, although the older Sansevieria name remains widely used throughout the houseplant and collector trade. The amount and distribution of variegation can naturally vary between individual plants and new growth.
Sansevieria Cordova Variegated does best in medium to bright light and can tolerate some gentle direct sunlight once properly acclimated. Variegated Snake Plants generally benefit from brighter conditions than completely green varieties because their cream and yellow portions contain less chlorophyll. Avoid suddenly exposing the plant to intense direct sunlight, which can scorch the lighter foliage.
Allow the potting mix to dry completely or almost completely between waterings, then water thoroughly and allow excess water to drain. Its thick leaves and underground rhizomes store moisture, making the plant highly drought tolerant. Overwatering and constantly damp soil are much greater risks than allowing it to remain dry.
Use a very well-draining, gritty cactus or succulent mix in a container with drainage. Pumice, perlite, lava rock, coarse sand, or similar mineral amendments can improve drainage and airflow around the roots and rhizomes.
Sansevieria Cordova Variegated prefers warm temperatures and low to moderate humidity but adapts well to typical household conditions. Protect it from freezing temperatures and prolonged exposure to cold, wet soil.
This Snake Plant develops a slow-growing, structured habit and gradually produces additional growth from underground rhizomes. Established plants may eventually form a larger clump of individual shoots or rosettes. Because the variegation can fluctuate, new leaves may contain different amounts of cream, yellow, and green. Avoid removing healthy variegated growth simply because its pattern differs from older leaves.
Sansevieria Cordova Variegated is toxic to cats and dogs if ingested. Like other Snake Plants, it contains saponins that can cause nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and other digestive irritation. Keep it out of reach of pets and small children.
