Sansevieria Long White
Sansevieria Long White is a striking collector Snake Plant prized for its long, upright leaves accented by pale cream, white, and green coloration. Its narrow, architectural foliage creates a clean vertical silhouette, while the lighter variegation provides considerably more contrast than a traditional green Snake Plant. The combination of height, structured growth, and bright foliage makes it an excellent statement plant for a modern indoor display.
The plant is commonly sold under the horticultural or collector name Sansevieria ‘Long White’. Sansevierias are now botanically classified within the genus Dracaena, although the familiar Sansevieria name remains widely used in the houseplant trade. Because Long White is primarily circulated under a cultivar or trade name, plants from different growers may show some variation in leaf width, patterning, and the amount of pale coloration.
Care
Sansevieria Long White does best in medium to bright, indirect light and can tolerate some gentle direct sunlight. Because its pale portions contain less chlorophyll, it benefits from brighter conditions than many completely green Snake Plants. Lower light may result in slower growth or less pronounced coloration. Gradually acclimate the plant before exposing it to stronger direct sun.
Allow the potting mix to dry completely or almost completely between waterings, then water thoroughly and allow all excess water to drain. Its thick foliage and underground rhizomes store moisture, making overwatering a much greater concern than occasional dryness. Reduce watering during cooler months and periods of slower growth.
Use a very well-draining cactus or succulent potting mix in a container with drainage. Adding pumice, perlite, lava rock, coarse sand, or other mineral amendments can improve drainage and provide additional airflow around the roots.
Sansevieria Long White prefers warm temperatures and low to moderate humidity. Average household humidity is generally suitable. Protect it from prolonged cold temperatures, particularly when the potting mix is damp.
This plant develops a slow-growing, upright and clumping growth habit. New shoots emerge from underground rhizomes and gradually create a fuller specimen. Because Long White is grown for its distinctive coloration, propagation by dividing established rhizomes and offsets is the best way to preserve the characteristics of the parent plant.
Pet Safety
Sansevieria Long White is toxic to cats and dogs if ingested. Like other Snake Plants, it contains saponins that can cause nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, drooling, and gastrointestinal discomfort. Keep it out of reach of pets and small children.
