Scindapsus Silver Hero
Scindapsus Silver Hero is a striking tropical houseplant known for its nearly solid silver foliage with subtle green undertones. Its heart-shaped leaves have a soft, metallic sheen that becomes especially noticeable in bright light. With its trailing or climbing growth habit and clean silver coloring, it is a beautiful choice for shelves, hanging pots, trellises, and plant collections.
The proper name is commonly listed as Scindapsus pictus ‘Silver Hero’. It may also be sold as Silver Hero Satin Pothos, although Scindapsus is a separate genus and is not a true pothos.
Care
Scindapsus Silver Hero does best in bright, indirect light. Good filtered light helps maintain its silvery foliage and encourages healthy growth. It can tolerate medium light, but growth may be slower. Avoid prolonged direct sunlight, which can scorch the leaves.
Water thoroughly when the top inch or two of soil feels dry and allow excess water to drain. Scindapsus prefer to dry slightly between waterings and can be sensitive to consistently wet soil.
Use a well-draining, chunky potting mix and a pot with drainage. A mixture of houseplant soil, orchid bark, perlite, and coco coir works well and provides plenty of airflow around the roots.
Scindapsus Silver Hero prefers warm temperatures and moderate to high humidity. It can adapt to average household humidity, but additional humidity can encourage healthier foliage and stronger growth. Keep it away from cold drafts, heating vents, and air conditioning.
This plant has a vining growth habit and can be allowed to trail from a hanging pot or shelf. It can also be trained onto a moss pole, plank, or trellis, which can encourage larger leaves as the plant matures.
Pet Safety
Scindapsus plants are toxic to cats and dogs if ingested. They contain insoluble calcium oxalate crystals that can cause irritation of the mouth, tongue, and digestive tract. Keep them away from pets and small children.
