Spathiphyllum Sensation Mint is a large, dramatic Peace Lily prized for its broad, deeply textured foliage and unusual mint-green variegation. Its oversized leaves feature varying shades of green, often with lighter mint, silvery-green, or softly mottled areas that give the foliage a layered appearance. Its substantial size makes it an excellent floor plant or statement piece for larger indoor spaces.
Commonly sold as Spathiphyllum ‘Sensation Mint’ or Mint Sensation Peace Lily, this plant is a variegated selection associated with Spathiphyllum ‘Sensation’, one of the largest Peace Lily cultivars commonly grown indoors. Like other Peace Lilies, it can produce the familiar white to cream-colored spathes surrounding a central flower spike.
Spathiphyllum Sensation Mint does best in medium to bright, indirect light. Brighter filtered light helps maintain its mint coloration and encourages stronger growth and flowering. It can tolerate lower light, but growth may slow and the variegation can become less pronounced. Avoid prolonged harsh direct sunlight, which can scorch the leaves.
Water when the top inch of soil begins to feel dry, then water thoroughly and allow excess water to drain. Peace Lilies prefer relatively consistent moisture and should not be allowed to remain completely dry for extended periods. Avoid keeping the soil constantly saturated, as this can lead to root problems.
Use a light, airy, and well-draining potting mix in a container with drainage. A mixture containing quality houseplant soil or coco coir with perlite and fine orchid bark works well. The mix should retain some moisture while still allowing good airflow around the roots.
Spathiphyllum Sensation Mint prefers warm temperatures and moderate to high humidity. It adapts well to typical household conditions, although additional humidity can help maintain its large foliage and reduce crispy leaf edges. Protect it from cold drafts and sudden temperature changes.
This Peace Lily develops a large, upright, and clumping growth habit. Mature plants can become considerably larger than standard Peace Lilies, with individual leaves reaching impressive proportions. Older or damaged leaves can be removed at the base, and established plants can eventually be divided into separate clumps if desired.
Spathiphyllum Sensation Mint is toxic to cats and dogs if ingested. Like other Peace Lilies, it contains insoluble calcium oxalate crystals that can cause irritation and burning of the mouth, tongue, and lips, along with drooling, vomiting, and difficulty swallowing. Despite its common name, Spathiphyllum is not a true lily, but it should still be kept out of reach of pets and small children.
