Syngonium 'Salmon' is a beautiful tropical houseplant known for its soft salmon-pink foliage, delicate green undertones, and elegant arrow-shaped leaves. Its warm, rosy coloration creates a striking yet subtle display that adds a splash of color to shelves, desks, and indoor plant collections. As new leaves emerge, they may display shades of peach, pink, and light green, creating a lovely blend of colors as the plant grows. With its adaptable nature and relatively easy care, 'Salmon' is an excellent choice for both beginners and experienced plant enthusiasts.
Commonly sold as Syngonium podophyllum 'Salmon', this plant is a cultivated variety of the Arrowhead Plant, a tropical climbing aroid native to Central and South America. 'Salmon' is a horticultural trade name used for plants displaying warm pink and salmon-colored foliage, and the exact cultivar identification may vary by grower.
Light: Prefers bright, indirect light to maintain its beautiful salmon-pink coloration and encourage healthy growth. Can tolerate medium light conditions, although lower light may result in greener foliage and slower growth. Avoid prolonged exposure to harsh direct sunlight, which can scorch the delicate leaves.
Watering: Allow the top 1–2 inches of soil to dry between waterings. Water thoroughly, allowing excess water to drain away. Syngonium prefers lightly moist soil during active growth but should never sit in soggy conditions. Reduce watering during cooler months.
Soil: Use a chunky, well-draining aroid mix containing orchid bark, perlite, coco coir, and quality potting soil. The mixture should retain some moisture while allowing good airflow around the roots.
Temperature & Humidity: Thrives in temperatures between 65–85°F and appreciates moderate to high humidity, ideally 50–70%. Protect from cold drafts and temperatures below 55°F. Consistent humidity helps encourage healthy leaf development.
Growth Habit: A moderately fast-growing tropical aroid that begins with a compact, bushy appearance before developing a trailing or climbing habit as it matures. Its arrow-shaped leaves may become larger and more divided with age. Provide a moss pole or trellis for climbing growth, or allow the stems to cascade naturally from a hanging planter. Regular pruning encourages a fuller, bushier appearance.
Toxic to cats and dogs if ingested. Syngonium contains insoluble calcium oxalate crystals that can cause oral irritation, excessive drooling, vomiting, and difficulty swallowing. Keep this plant out of reach of curious pets.
