Anthurium Regale Hybrid
Anthurium Regale Hybrid is a dramatic tropical aroid prized for its large, velvety leaves with prominent contrasting veins and a deeply textured appearance. The foliage is typically rich green with pale silver to white venation, while the exact leaf shape, texture, and coloration can vary depending on the other Anthurium in its parentage. As the plant matures, its leaves can become increasingly impressive, making it an excellent statement plant for collectors, plant cabinets, greenhouses, and bright indoor spaces.
The name Anthurium Regale Hybrid refers to a plant with Anthurium regale as part of its parentage, rather than a single specific cultivar. Because the second parent can vary, individual hybrids may differ significantly in appearance and growth characteristics. Anthurium regale itself is a highly sought-after species native to Peru and is especially known for its large velvety foliage and striking pale venation.
Care
Anthurium Regale Hybrids do best in bright, indirect light. Plenty of filtered light encourages healthy growth and larger foliage, but prolonged harsh direct sunlight can scorch the leaves. Providing consistent light is especially important while the plant is developing a new leaf.
Water thoroughly when the top inch or two of soil feels dry and allow excess water to drain. These Anthuriums generally prefer consistent moisture during active growth but should never remain waterlogged. Avoid allowing the potting mix to become excessively dry for long periods.
Use a well-draining, chunky aroid mix and a pot with excellent drainage. A mixture containing orchid bark, perlite or pumice, coco coir, and a small amount of quality potting soil works well. The goal is to retain some moisture while still allowing plenty of oxygen around the roots.
Anthurium Regale Hybrids prefer warm temperatures and moderate to high humidity. Higher humidity can be especially beneficial while new leaves are unfurling and expanding. Good airflow is also important, particularly when humidity is high. Protect the plant from cold drafts, heating vents, and sudden temperature changes.
These plants generally have an upright growth habit and can produce increasingly large leaves as they mature. Growth characteristics can vary depending on the hybrid's other parent. Avoid disturbing new leaves while they are expanding, as the soft developing foliage can be easily damaged.
Pet Safety
Anthurium Regale Hybrids are toxic to cats and dogs if ingested. Like other Anthuriums, they contain insoluble calcium oxalate crystals that can cause irritation of the mouth and digestive tract. Keep them away from pets and small children.
