Begonia Harmony's Daenerys is a dramatic foliage Begonia prized for its bold metallic coloring and richly patterned leaves. Its foliage can display shades of silver, pink, lavender, burgundy, deep green, and nearly black, creating a striking contrast that changes as the leaves mature. The combination of darker margins and luminous central coloring gives the plant an almost iridescent appearance, making it an impressive addition to specialty Begonia collections.
Commonly sold as Begonia ‘Harmony’s Daenerys’, this is a cultivated ornamental Begonia selected primarily for its distinctive foliage. It is part of the specialty Begonia selections associated with Harmony Foliage and is grown for its unusual coloration and pattern rather than for its flowers. Color intensity can vary depending on leaf age, lighting, temperature, and growing conditions.
Begonia Harmony's Daenerys does best in bright, indirect light. Good filtered light encourages compact growth and helps maintain its strongest coloration. Avoid prolonged direct sunlight, which can scorch the leaves and damage the lighter portions of the foliage.
Water when the top inch of soil begins to feel dry, then water thoroughly and allow excess water to drain. Keep the potting mix lightly and consistently moist during active growth without allowing it to remain soggy or waterlogged. Avoid repeatedly allowing the plant to wilt completely between waterings.
Use a light, airy and well-draining potting mix in a container with drainage. A mixture containing quality houseplant soil or coco coir, perlite or pumice, and fine orchid bark works well. The roots appreciate consistent moisture combined with excellent drainage and airflow.
Begonia Harmony's Daenerys prefers warm temperatures and moderate to high humidity. Additional humidity can help keep the foliage looking its best, but good airflow is important. Avoid allowing water to remain on the leaves for extended periods, particularly in enclosed or poorly ventilated growing spaces.
This Begonia develops a compact, bushy to spreading growth habit and is grown primarily for its dramatic foliage. Remove damaged or declining leaves as needed to maintain good airflow and appearance. Established plants may also produce small Begonia flowers, although the colorful foliage remains the main attraction.
Begonia Harmony's Daenerys is toxic to cats and dogs if ingested. Begonias contain soluble calcium oxalates, with higher concentrations generally found in the underground portions of the plant. Ingestion can cause irritation of the mouth and digestive tract, drooling, vomiting, or difficulty swallowing. Keep it out of reach of pets and small children.
