Begonia Harmony's Heartbreaker is a striking foliage Begonia prized for its dramatic heart-shaped leaves and rich combination of pink, red, burgundy, silver, and deep green tones. The contrasting colors and markings create a bold, almost painted appearance, while the metallic sheen common to many specialty foliage Begonias adds even more depth. Its compact growth makes it an excellent choice for shelves, tabletops, terrariums, and colorful Begonia collections.
Commonly sold as Begonia ‘Harmony’s Heartbreaker’, this is a cultivated ornamental Begonia selected primarily for its distinctive foliage. Like many specialty Begonia cultivars, the exact intensity and distribution of its colors can change as leaves mature and may vary depending on light, temperature, and growing conditions.
Begonia Harmony's Heartbreaker does best in bright, indirect light. Good filtered light encourages compact growth and helps maintain its strongest foliage coloration. Avoid prolonged direct sunlight, which can scorch the leaves and fade or damage their colorful patterns.
Water when the top inch of soil begins to feel dry, then water thoroughly and allow excess water to drain. Keep the potting mix lightly and consistently moist during active growth without allowing it to remain soggy or waterlogged. Avoid repeatedly allowing the plant to wilt completely between waterings.
Use a light, airy and well-draining potting mix in a container with drainage. A mixture containing quality houseplant soil or coco coir, perlite or pumice, and fine orchid bark works well. The roots appreciate some consistent moisture while still requiring good airflow and drainage.
Begonia Harmony's Heartbreaker prefers warm temperatures and moderate to high humidity. Additional humidity can help maintain healthy foliage, but good airflow is important. Avoid allowing water to remain on the leaves for extended periods, particularly in enclosed or poorly ventilated growing spaces.
This Begonia develops a compact, bushy to spreading growth habit and is grown primarily for its colorful foliage. Remove damaged or declining leaves as needed to improve airflow and maintain its appearance. Small flowers may appear on established plants, but the dramatic foliage remains the main attraction.
Begonia Harmony's Heartbreaker is toxic to cats and dogs if ingested. Begonias contain soluble calcium oxalates, with higher concentrations generally found in the underground portions of the plant. Ingestion can cause irritation of the mouth and digestive tract, drooling, vomiting, or difficulty swallowing. Keep it out of reach of pets and small children.
