Begonia Harmony's Love Apple is a colorful foliage Begonia prized for its rich red and rosy-pink coloring accented by darker burgundy, green, and metallic tones. The bold coloration gives the foliage a warm, almost glowing appearance, while contrasting margins and markings add depth to each leaf. Its compact size and intense color make it an excellent choice for shelves, tabletops, terrariums, and specialty Begonia collections.
Commonly sold as Begonia ‘Harmony’s Love Apple’, this is a cultivated ornamental Begonia selected primarily for its distinctive foliage. It is one of the specialty Begonia selections associated with Harmony Foliage. As with many colorful Begonia cultivars, the exact shades and patterns can change as leaves mature and in response to lighting, temperature, and growing conditions.
Begonia Harmony's Love Apple does best in bright, indirect light. Good filtered light helps maintain its rich red and pink coloration while encouraging compact growth. Avoid prolonged direct sunlight, which can scorch the foliage and damage its more intensely colored areas.
Water when the top inch of soil begins to feel dry, then water thoroughly and allow excess water to drain. Keep the potting mix lightly and consistently moist during active growth without allowing it to remain soggy or waterlogged. Avoid repeatedly allowing the plant to wilt completely between waterings.
Use a light, airy and well-draining potting mix in a container with drainage. A mixture containing quality houseplant soil or coco coir, perlite or pumice, and fine orchid bark works well. The roots appreciate consistent moisture combined with good drainage and plenty of airflow.
Begonia Harmony's Love Apple prefers warm temperatures and moderate to high humidity. Additional humidity can help maintain healthy foliage, but good airflow is important. Avoid allowing water to remain on the leaves for extended periods, particularly in enclosed or poorly ventilated growing spaces.
This Begonia develops a compact, bushy to spreading growth habit and is grown primarily for its colorful foliage. Remove damaged or declining leaves as needed to improve airflow and keep the plant looking tidy. Small flowers may appear on established plants, although the intensely colored foliage remains the main attraction.
Begonia Harmony's Love Apple is toxic to cats and dogs if ingested. Begonias contain soluble calcium oxalates, with higher concentrations generally found in the underground portions of the plant. Ingestion can cause irritation of the mouth and digestive tract, drooling, vomiting, or difficulty swallowing. Keep it out of reach of pets and small children.
