Philodendron 'Mayoi Hybrid' is a striking tropical houseplant prized for its deeply lobed foliage and bold, architectural appearance. Its glossy green leaves develop elongated, finger-like divisions as they mature, creating a dramatic tropical look that adds texture and movement to any indoor plant collection. With its unusual leaf shape and vigorous climbing habit, this Philodendron makes an impressive statement when grown on a moss pole, trellis, or decorative support. Its lush foliage and relatively easy care make it an excellent choice for aroid enthusiasts and collectors.
Philodendron 'Mayoi Hybrid' is a horticultural trade name used for plants associated with Philodendron mayoi, a tropical climbing species native to Brazil. The term 'hybrid' suggests mixed parentage, although the exact parent plants are not always documented by growers. As a result, leaf shape, mature size, and growth characteristics may vary between individual plants.
Light: Prefers bright, indirect light to encourage healthy growth and the development of its distinctive, deeply divided foliage. Can tolerate medium light conditions, although growth may slow and leaves may remain smaller. Avoid prolonged exposure to harsh direct sunlight, which can scorch the leaves.
Watering: Allow the top 1–2 inches of soil to dry between waterings. Water thoroughly, allowing excess water to drain away. Philodendrons prefer lightly moist soil during active growth but are sensitive to consistently soggy conditions. Reduce watering during cooler months.
Soil: Use a chunky, well-draining aroid mix containing orchid bark, perlite, coco coir, and quality potting soil. The mixture should retain some moisture while providing excellent airflow around the roots.
Temperature & Humidity: Thrives in temperatures between 65–85°F and appreciates moderate to high humidity, ideally 50–70%. Protect from cold drafts and temperatures below 55°F. Consistent humidity encourages healthy leaf development and helps prevent crispy leaf edges.
Growth Habit: A climbing tropical aroid that develops elongated, deeply lobed leaves as it matures. Its flexible stems produce aerial roots that can attach to a moss pole, plank, or trellis, encouraging larger and more mature foliage. With proper support, the plant can grow several feet tall indoors. Regular pruning can help control its size and encourage a fuller appearance.
Toxic to cats and dogs if ingested. Philodendrons contain insoluble calcium oxalate crystals that can cause oral irritation, excessive drooling, vomiting, and difficulty swallowing. Keep this plant out of reach of curious pets.
